15 May 2008
Council met today, Thursday 15 May.  An important part of the meeting was the elections.  This is the first time that there has been a direct election of President.  There were also three practitioner director positions to be elected.  Those elected will take up their roles on 1 July.  The results were:

President   - Lyn McMorran, Wellington

Practitioner Directors  - Neville Caird, Dunedin
  - Jordi Garcia, Auckland
  - Tony Vidler, Christchurch

In addition, Garth Clarricoats continues as a practitioner director - he was elected for a two year term last year - and Ross Butler continues for another year as independent director.

Ferne Bradley completes her term as independent director on 30 June 2008.  She has completed the maximum permitted term of four years.  Mario Juran also completes his term as a practitioner director on 30 June 2008.  Mario did not stand for re-election.

Under the new Constitution, the Board will elect its Chair at the first meeting in July.

AcknowledgmentsWe all need to acknowledge the contribution that our directors make to IFA.  The past few years have been very demanding ones for directors, reflecting a period of unprecedented change for our industry.

While he still has six weeks to go as President, Simon Hassan will complete a period of signififcant service to IFA, spanning more than a decade as a member of the Board.  No doubt this will be more fully acknowledged at the Success Forum 2008 in Christchurch, it is worth reminding members of this sterling service.
