| This scholarship is intended to provide financial support for a local member to continue their education in a discipline relevant to their profession. It provides a cash payment of $500 on the successful completion of an "approved course of study" which has a direct relevance to the financial advisory profession. By funding this from the branch finances, the Wellington branch is recognising the growing professional requirements of its members.
Who is eligible to apply? Scholarships are awarded twice annually, and at the sole discretion of the Trustees who will take account of the following guidelines.
The applicant: must be a financial member of the FPIA Wellington Branch, be ineligible for educational financial support from their own organisation, to be regularly involved in FPIA Wellington Branch activities, generally recognised as having a high degree of professionalism, and must be committed to the further development and promotion of the FPIA.
The application: - to be in writing to the Trustees and outline: the proposed course of study, the date of course commencement and completion, evidence of enrolment, and accompanied by a personal statement which (in no more than 500 words) outlines what personal objective(s) of the applicant will be achieved through the course of study, and how the applicant intends to further the objectives of the FPIA in the future.
Why 'Denis Sampson'? Denis Sampson (who recently died at the age of 86) joined the life insurance industry as an agent in 1962 and retired in 1985 at the age of 70. He served as the LUA National President from 1975 to 1977. He had a passion for ongoing education, and was instrumental in the formation of the LUA Code of Ethics and the establishment of the New Zealand Diploma of Life Assurance.
